McAfee Leverages Microsoft's New Anti-Virus API to Enhance Virus Protection For Exchange 2000 Servers 6/25/2001 8:01:00 PM SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jun 25, 2001 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Coinciding with the release of Microsoft's new anti-virus API built into the Microsoft Exchange 2000 service pack 1 (SP1), McAfee, a division of Network Associates, Inc. (NETA) , today announced its GroupShield 5.0 anti-virus product for Microsoft Exchange 2000. "Using the new virus detection capabilities increases the speed and level of virus protection for our mutual Exchange 2000 Server customers." GroupShield 5.0 for Exchange 2000 offers new levels of protection against viruses and malicious code by offering a full range of functionality to support the enterprise customer. Included in the new release is McAfee's unique Outbreak Manager technology, which brings new levels of speed, manageability and intelligence to corporate environments by looking for suspicious "outbreak-like" e-mail behavioral patterns and halting potential outbreaks before they infiltrate the network. Complementing McAfee's Outbreak Manager is advanced virus blocking technology that enables administrators to block potential viruses based on e-mail subject line content, and file attachment name, size and type. "Microsoft's new API puts McAfee in an even stronger position to help protect Microsoft Exchange 2000 users from viruses and malicious code," said Zoe Lowther, solution marketing manager for the McAfee GroupShield product line. "The new API, coupled with McAfee Outbreak Manager, offers greater performance and security when scanning for viruses and malicious code within Exchange 2000." McAfee GroupShield for Exchange 2000, a key component of McAfee's award-winning active virus defense (AVD) suite, detects both existing and new viruses in the Microsoft Exchange environment. The GroupShield product for Exchange 2000 offers full support for servers running in a multi-node Active-Active Cluster environment, enabling intelligent updating of virus definition files. The product is further integrated with the Microsoft Management Console (MMC), giving Exchange administrators the ability to manage their Exchange servers and anti-virus configuration from the same console and environment.
